Useful Controls & Tips

The controls at the top left of the Editor can be quite handy even thought their function is not always obvious.

Outine (Shift-Alt-O) shows the block structure of either the container currently selected or the page if nothing is selected. This can visually help ensure that the structure is as intended but also allows one to jump directly to a specific block.

A very handy use of this is to add a block to the end of a tab container; it is often difficult to click on just the right place to get the “+” to appear within the tab. If you use the Outline and click on the appropriate “Tab” (and not “Tabs” which is the overall container) then the “+” will be highlighted within the tab you selected

Modes: Select and Edit the Modes function allows you to switch between ‘Select’ mode which selects a block and “Edit’ mode which edits a block. The shortcuts for these functions are ‘Esc’ to go to Select mode and ‘Enter’ to go toe Edit mode. This can cause no end to confusion as these are two keys that are used frequently. Going to the ‘Mode’ function at the top lets you see which mode you are in and change the mode in a controlled manner.

“+” adds a block without clicking on the “+” sign in the page. The selected block is positioned after the block currently selected/ being edited.

Other Tips

When adding a photo image that is to be “clickable to enlarge” select the image after adding it, click on the “link” option, select “Media File”, and once done, click on the down menu selector and choose “open in new tab”.

To ensure that side-by-side bilingual text remains lined up, use a 2-column container with the English text on one side and the French text on the other for each paragraph. MAKE SURE THERE IS AN EMPTY PARAGRAPH AFTER EACH PARAGRAPH AT THE END OF THE COLUMN CONTAINER; this ensures that there will be space between the text and the next block, otherwise the longer text will not have space after it. There is a reusable block defined (RB-BilingualText) which sets this up.
