In the morning, Gilles Grillet, a former Director of the Agriculture School of Hyères and a teacher of landscaping, gave a talk to MGF members in the conference room of the mairie in Le Barroux.

Le matin, Gilles Grillet, ancien Directeur de l’Ecole d’Agriculture d’Hyères et Enseignant Paysagiste, a donné une conférence pour les membres MGF dans la salle de conférence de la Mairie du Barroux.

How in any act of gardening, there is a hidden meaning that stems from our unconscious and which makes us realise the choices we make are not always our own…

After the talk, we had lunch at a local bistro.

Après la conférence, nous avons déjeuné dans un bistrot local.

In the afternoon we visited the tulip fields in Jonquières. It had been raining a lot and we were not sure whether the fields were going to be accessible. But we were lucky, it was the first day the tulip fields were open to the public and there weren’t too many visitors yet.

Dans l’après-midi nous avons visité les champs de tulipes de Jonquières. Il pleuvait beaucoup dans la région et nous n’étions pas sûrs que les champs allaient être accessibles. Mais nous avons eu de la chance, c’était le premier jour où les champs étaient ouverts au public et il n’y avait pas encore trop de visiteurs.

The tulip fields in Jonquières run along the road to Vaison. 8.6 hectares have been planted by the Dutch company Triflor. The main flowering time lasts only around ten days. After this, the leaves and flowers are cut down, not for the flowers but for the bulbs, which will now have multiplied and will be sent back to Holland, before blooming again in our gardens.

Les champs de tulipes à Jonquières longent la route en direction de Vaison.  8,6 hectares sont plantés par l’entreprise néerlandaise Triflor. Leur pleine floraison ne dure qu’environ dix jours. Après feuilles et fleurs seront coupées non pour les fleurs mais pour les bulbes qui se sont multipliés et qui seront réexpédiés en Hollande, avant de refleurir dans nos jardins.

We walked amongst the colourful fields, and everyone was welcome to create a bouquet from the picking meadow. We went home very happy!

Nous avons marché parmi les champs colorés et avons pu choisir nos bouquets dans la prairie de cueillette.  Nous sommes tous rentrés chez nous heureux.
