Gilles Grillet, a former Director of the Agriculture School of Hyères and a teacher of landscaping, gave this talk to MGF members in Le Barroux in March 2024.

Gilles Grillet, ancien Directeur de l’Ecole d’Agriculture d’Hyères et Enseignant Paysagiste, a donné cette conférence pour les membres MGF au Barroux, le mois de mars 2024.

“How in any act of gardening, there is a hidden meaning that stems from our unconscious and which makes us realise the choices we make are not always our own. Why, when we plant a tree, or perhaps build a pergola, we feel a satisfaction that we do not always know how to explain. This feeling comes from the depths of our past and reveals a subliminal need to reconnect with our origins. The history of gardens is the history of humanity and its search for paradise lost!”

« Comment dans tout acte de jardinage, il y a un sens caché qui vient de notre inconscient et qui nous guide vers ce besoin de penser que le geste n’est pas ‘gratuit’. Pourquoi, lorsque nous plantons un arbre, construisons une pergola…, nous éprouvons une satisfaction que nous ne savons pas toujours expliquer. Ce sentiment nous vient du plus profond de notre histoire et révèle ce besoin impalpable de nous reconnecter à nos origines. L’histoire des jardins c’est l’histoire de l’humanité et de sa recherche du paradis perdu…! »
